Innovators are us…
Innovation is a human endeavour. It is part of the human condition.
We can’t help wondering about all kinds of possibilities – how things might be or could be.
And yet, many of us somehow find innovation hard. We want to be disruptive, we want to break free, but can’t.
We all like to imagine that the barriers are money, opportunity, position, resources and all of the usual obstacles. But I don’t think so.
In my experience, the number one blocker is ourselves.
An example will explain what I mean. Two college friends of mine wanted to climb mountains, so they did! They bought the gear and the books and they tried out a few climbing walls, then a few baby climbs. Before long, they were making substantial climbs.
If you want to be a climber, then just climb. If you want to be a writer, just write. If you want to be a singer, just sing.
If you want to modify your bike just because you can – and want to have fun – then just build a mountain bike. Don’t wait to be appointed as an official “creator of new bikes” in the labs of Shimano.
Don’t wait for permission. Don’t wait for the job title.
If you want to be disruptive, then disrupt!
Innovators aren’t inventors, engineers, designers and all those fancy-titled jobs.
INNOVATORS ARE US!
